my old lamp uses 25 watt bulbs, can i use a 15 watt cfl bulb safely as a replacement?
i got new energy saving cfl bulbs that are 15 watts each. i wanted to replace an old lamp bulb which used 25 watts. could i use this 15 watt safely to replace the old 25 watt? i dont want it to overload that is why i am asking for expert advice! please get back to me thank you!

Yes, the watt limitation on household lamps is due to the heat created from a standard incandescent bulb, if the bulb was just to be floating from the two wires then you could have a bulb of several thousand watts connected but with the fixings and the shade around the bulb this is lowered for safety as a higher power bulb produces more heat and there is a chance the fixture may melt or the shade may burn if a bulb of a higher wattage than specified is used. CFL bulbs do no rely on heat to create light, the electricity arcs across a tube of various gasses (mostly being argon and mercury vapour) and causes the gasses to glow. Of course some heat is produced but this is much lower than that of an incandescent bulb. You could probably go up to about a 60w CFL bulb with no harm (yes you can get 60w CFLs, they equal the light output of about a 300w incandescent bulb)
SO YES, Go ahead, the light output will be much higher too, probably that of about a 75W incandescent bulb
